New Delhi, August 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday will host the 23rd edition of his popular monthly radio show Mann Ki Baat, said a press release on his official website. With tensions in the Kashmir Valley reaching a boiling point, the PM is expcted to address the issue in his speech today. On Friday, the death toll in the current spate of violence and tensions, reached 70 when a civilian was killed in a confrontation between the police and civilians. Several thousands have also been injured, with the central government and the state government lead by Mehbooba Mufti pulling out all stops to plug the bloodshed.
On Saturday, the PM had also met Mufti, to hold talks about the situation in Kashmir, in the wake of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit this week. The Center is said to have taken a tough stand on the situation, pressurising Mufti to take control of the law and order situation, which is spiralling out of control. The PM is also said to have told the PDP chief that law and order is the responsibility of the state government, and that it has to keep the trouble makers in check. Mufti had this week said in a joint press conference with Rajnath Singh that 95 per cent people in the Valley wanted peace, and it was just the 5 per cent that were creating trouble.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi, like all of us, is very concerned with the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The Prime Minister wants this bloodshed to end so that the state comes out of the present turmoil,” Mufti is reported to have told the press after her hour-long meet with the PM. Last month, after July edition of Mann Ki Baat, National Conference chief Omar Abdullah had lamented PM’s silence on the issue, during the show. “How I wish my Prime Minister had found a few reassuring words for my state which has seen almost 50 deaths & countless injured MannKiBaat”, Abdullah had tweeted after the show.
